Information Technology Governance and Strategy

How organizations govern their information technology and align it with business strategy determines, in large part, whether technology investments translate into measurable performance gains or quietly drain resources. Researchers in this area examine the structures, roles, and processes—from enterprise architecture frameworks to the evolving authority of the chief information officer—through which firms coordinate IT decisions with broader organizational goals. A persistent open question is why alignment remains difficult even in organizations that formally adopt governance best practices, and whether maturity models developed in large enterprises apply equally to smaller or more dynamic firms. Current work is also probing how rapid shifts in technology, such as cloud migration and AI adoption, are forcing organizations to rethink governance mechanisms that were designed for a slower-moving environment.
