Big Data and Business Intelligence
Big data and business intelligence research examines how organizations collect, process, and act on large, fast-moving datasets to improve decisions and operational outcomes—ranging from forecasting demand across a supply chain to identifying early warning signs of financial risk. The core question is whether access to more data, combined with the right analytical tools, actually translates into measurable gains in firm performance, or whether organizational and technical barriers erode that potential. Researchers are actively working out how predictive analytics and decision support systems can be embedded into everyday management practice rather than remaining the province of specialized data teams. Open tensions include how firms balance the speed of data-driven decisions against the need for human judgment, and how smaller organizations can compete in analytical capability without the infrastructure advantages of large enterprises.
