Gynecological conditions and treatments
The uterus can develop with structural abnormalities—ranging from incomplete fusion of the embryonic Müllerian ducts to scarring from prior procedures—that silently undermine a person's ability to conceive or carry a pregnancy to term. Researchers in this area map how conditions such as congenital uterine malformations, endometrial polyps, and intrauterine adhesions (a hallmark of Asherman syndrome) alter the uterine environment, and they evaluate whether hysteroscopic correction of these defects genuinely improves live birth rates. Central open questions include how to standardize diagnosis across classification systems, which patients benefit most from surgical intervention versus expectant management, and how the genetic programs governing Müllerian duct development might one day inform targeted therapies for women with recurring reproductive failure.
