Digital Transformation in Financial Services
Digital transformation in financial services examines how the spread of digital technologies reshapes the structures, institutions, and flows that constitute modern economies, from the internal accounting systems of banks to the broader architecture of regional financial markets. As fintech platforms, central bank digital currencies, and algorithmic decision-making become embedded in everyday transactions, researchers are working to understand whether these changes improve economic security and access or concentrate risk and opportunity in new ways. Open questions include how digitalization interacts with regional development—whether it narrows gaps between economies or deepens them—and how regulatory and institutional frameworks can keep pace with an innovation cycle that consistently outstrips the rules designed to govern it.
