Advanced Steganography and Watermarking Techniques

Steganography and digital watermarking are concerned with hiding information within digital images in ways that are either imperceptible to human observers or resilient to tampering and compression. Watermarking protects intellectual property and enables image authentication by embedding signals that survive common transformations, while steganography pursues covert communication by concealing messages so completely that their presence is undetectable. Reversible data embedding extends this further by allowing hidden data to be extracted and the original image restored without any loss, a property critical in medical imaging and forensic contexts where altering even a single pixel carries consequence. Active research is now exploring how deep learning can learn optimal embedding strategies directly from data, and how robust hashing can reliably fingerprint an image despite the adversarial modifications that increasingly sophisticated forgery tools can introduce.
