Search

Kvire searches across two catalogs in parallel: OpenAlex (papers, ~250M records) and Open Library (books, ~30M records). One query, unified ranking.

What you can search by

  • Topic or keyword — “information theory”, “quantum computing”, “Foucault”.
  • Author name — “Hannah Arendt”, “Claude Shannon”.
  • Title — “A mathematical theory of communication”.
  • Identifier — DOI (e.g. 10.1109/18.61115) or ISBN (9780735216105).

Filtering results

The results page exposes three kinds of filters:

  • Type tabs — flip between All / Books / Papers.
  • Subject facets — clickable subjects from the catalog metadata.
  • Era — Pre-1980 / 1980–2000 / Post-2000.

The sort dropdown supports relevance (default), year, rating/impact, citations (papers only), or A–Z.

Topic autocomplete

As you type, Kvire suggests OpenAlex topics that match. Hitting a topic suggestion runs a topic-scoped search rather than a free-text one — usually higher precision.

Keyboard navigation

Press / from anywhere to focus the search input. On the results page, j and k move down/up through results, and Enter opens the highlighted one. See Keyboard shortcuts for the full list.

What we don't do

We don't do full-text search inside paper bodies — we only search the catalog metadata that OpenAlex and Open Library expose. For deep full-text, you still need the publisher's site or a service like Semantic Scholar / arXiv.
